MIT Technology Review Journalist James O'Donnell spoke to TRI's Russ Tedrake, vice president of Robotics Research, about the rapid pace of change and how AI techniques can bring more capable robots.

"It's like being strapped to the front of a rocket," Tedrake says of the field's pace right now, adding he has seen plenty of hype cycles rise and fall, but none like this one. "I've been in the field for 20-some years. This is different."

AI is upending the way robots learn, O'Donnell wrote, leaving companies and researchers with a need for more data.
