After an exhilarating test drive around California’s Thunderhill Raceway, Automotive News Journalist Pete Bigelow talks about autonomous capabilities with Toyota Research Institute’s CEO and Human Interactive Driving Team.

Bigelow joined journalists at a recent media event hosted by TRI’s Human Interactive Driving team.

“Toyota has maintained a soft spot for augmenting human performance throughout its existence, and that factors into the company’s intentions to keep people in the driving loop,” Bigelow wrote, referencing the “jidoka concept, which describes automation with a human touch and plays a foundational role in the company’s just-in-time manufacturing system.”
