Emily Sumner is a Research Scientist on the Machine Assisted Cognition team at TRI. Emily researches how AI can help humans become more curious and make good decisions.
Prior to joining TRI, Emily was a postdoctoral scholar at UC Berkeley where she conducted research on curiosity and social influences on exploration. Emily has her Ph.D. in cognitive sciences from UC Irvine where she studied decision-making and risk-taking across the human lifespan. Emily has also written and reported pieces for the NPR show The Loh Down on Science on pandemic science and science in general.
